From Home to High-Roller: Shrewsbury Woman's Nail Business Soars to Success
Becci Hollis, a Shrewsbury resident, started her nail business from her home at 17 to save money. Little did she know, this decision would lead to a six-figure business in its first year. At 29, she founded Blossom Academy, offering nail training courses and a brand called Muse, which sells nail equipment and accessories. The brand has expanded globally, shipping products to Australia and opening a fulfillment center in America.
The pandemic provided a turning point for Becci. She utilized the time to work on her business, teaching herself and others through lesson plans and manuals. She started with one-on-one sessions in her bedroom and later moved to teaching larger groups in a local village hall. After a year working in salons in Australia, she decided to establish her business in her hometown.
Blossom Academy now offers two to three courses a week, covering nail extensions, art, gel polish, and equipment usage. Becci's success has led to a six-figure business, and her brand, Muse, has also exceeded six figures in its first year. She attributes her success to her determination and the support of her team.
Becci's journey has been challenging, especially in a male-dominated industry. She has faced dismissiveness from male business owners, but her current success has earned her respect and recognition. She believes in the power of perseverance and encourages others to keep promoting their businesses, even during difficult times.
Looking ahead, Becci aims to expand her brand globally, exploring new markets in Europe, Australia, and America. She also plans to grow Blossom Academy by introducing new courses and seeking help to ensure its continued success.
Becci's advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is to embrace the ups and downs of business. She emphasizes the importance of perseverance and self-promotion, even when it feels like no one is listening. Her story inspires others to pursue their passions and build successful businesses, no matter the challenges they may face.
