Exeter Chiefs' Manager Rob Baxter: 'We're Scrapping for a Top-Four Finish'
Exeter Chiefs' manager Rob Baxter remains optimistic about his team's chances of securing a top-four finish in the Premiership despite a recent setback. Despite losing 8-3 at home to Bristol, Exeter's boss believes their play-off hopes are far from over.
The defeat, which occurred in challenging weather conditions at Sandy Park, marked the team's third league loss of the season, causing them to drop to fifth place. However, Baxter emphasizes that the team is just one point behind fourth-placed Leicester and that Bristol's win doesn't change their determination.
"We've done a great job getting to where we are and staying competitive," Baxter stated in an interview with BBC Radio Devon. "Now, it's all about continuing to improve."
The Chiefs had a challenging start to the season, finishing second-from-bottom the previous year. Yet, they've emerged as one of the league's most impressive teams this campaign. This season's Bristol win marked their first home league loss, and they now have to wait until March 21 for their next Premiership game due to the Six Nations period.
Exeter's upcoming schedule includes a challenging home game against Sale, followed by a lengthy away trip to Newcastle. They will then host the champions, Northampton, after a European Challenge Cup knockout match against Munster.
"We have some crucial games ahead in the Premiership," Baxter added. "These fixtures are incredibly exciting, and if we perform well, we can get back on track."
Baxter expresses confidence in his team's ability to fight for a top-four spot, stating, "We're not out of this season yet. We'll be scrapping until the very end for that spot."
Despite the setback, Baxter's enthusiasm and belief in the team's potential are evident, leaving fans and observers eagerly anticipating the Chiefs' future performances.
